Effects of Vitamin C on Kidney and Bone of Rats Exposed to Low Doses of Cadmium

چکیده
In this study, the effect of vitamin C on cadmium-induced toxicity was investigated. Wister rats were exposed to cadmium (as CdSO4.8H2O), by sub-cutaneous injection, at doses of 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 μg/kg body weight, with or without vitamin C supplementation, for four weeks. Serum alkaline phosphatase activity of the group of rats not supplemented vitamin C (group III) significantly (p<0.05) increased, all the groups supplemented with vitamin C also had significantly (p<0.05) increased serum alkaline phosphatase. The bone protein level and serum calcium of the vitamin C untreated group of rats, significantly (p<0.05) decreased relative to control. The bone calcium of the vitamin C treated rats significantly (p<0.05) decreased (group IIIc from 2896.30 ± 344.64 mg Ca/dl to 1049 ± 101.43 mg Ca/dl) while the bone phosphate of this same group of rats, significantly (p<0.05) increased. For some parameters evaluated, such as serum calcium and bone protein concentration, the effects of cadmium on the vitamin C treated rats were less pronounced, indicating that vitamin C may be protective against cadmium-induced toxicity.

Therapeutic Effect of Deferasirox and Glycine on Chronic Cadmium Toxicosis in Rats
Objective: It has been shown that deferasirox can reduce blood and tissues lead content in animal models. In this study the effect of deferasirox alone or combined with glycine as an antioxidant was evaluated in chronic cadmium toxicosis in rat. Methods: Male wistar albino rats were exposed to 200 ppm cadmium in the drinking water for 3 weeks and treated thereafter with deferasirox (140 mg/kg),...

Introduction:studies have shown that the increase of active oxygen species is associated with damage to bone cells and the role of exercise and vitamin D on bone health has been proven;the aim of this study was to investigate the interactive effects of aerobic exercise with vitamin D supplements on bone resorption markers in rats exposed to oxidative damage induced by H2O2. <br...

متن کاملProtective Effects of Vitamin C and Chitosan against Cadmium-Induced Oxidative Stress in the Liver of Common Carp (Cyprinuscarpio)
Background: Cadmium (Cd) intoxication can cause oxidative stress and involve the antioxi-dant defense system in hepatocytes. Administration of vitamin C, chitosan, or a combination of both may prevent Cd-induced oxidative damage. Methods:Cyprinus carpio were distributed into six groups. The control group received normal feed (Group I). Group II was exposed to 0.2 mg.L-1 cadmium chloride. Gr...
